When I first heard Max Alper's tracks on FMLY, I was very intrigued. From listening to "You Are a Dog", I imagined his performance with loopers and a microphone building everything up right there on stage, but "Box Fan Blues" immediately caught my attention. It starts out catchy with overlayed hand claps and vocal harmonies. However, I won't be marrying my daughter, if I ever have one. And if I have to bury a son I might have, I'd probably never get past it. To say it bluntly, I like the lyrics. I downloaded "Toneclusterfuck" based on the four most songly tracks off the album. I didn't expect drones, and they aren't my style mostly. But after visiting Max's myspace and watching him and his band's live performance, I got it. It reminded me of the first time I saw, what used to be called and maybe still is called, noise rock, live. Its an in the moment, emotional and euphoric experience. It's like listening to an orchestra with my eyes closed and having the overwhelming feeling of connectedness to existence.
